Finally, i finish my working life. Tired, tired, tired, is time for me to rest and prepare myself for yr2. I can feel the stress that i m going to sustain in yr 2 by now, very scary. After working for 4 months, I realise that i love studying so much more compare to working, haha…
Basically, i started working since sem3, cozz we hv nothing much to do, so i went to work after class 2-3 days a weeks. Worked in the first law firm, Lai, Yoong & Rita for about 4 months (but only part time, 3 days a week). Then, in the last month of my break, i shifted to another firm, Anuar Hong & Ong. I have experienced totally different things in this 2 firms, different people, different environment, different ways of handling work and so on.
Lai, Yoong & Rita is a traditional firm, is long established but is a small firm. This firm use pc that operate solely by the keyboard, no mouse, haha, is the type that i used about 10 yrs ago, haha!!!Luckily, they have one with microsoft office for us, youngsters, hehe!!!Even though it is a small firm, i think i learn so much in this firm. I didnt expect a lawyer to explain every document i typed in details. But my boss, Ms. Lai, actually tell me the reason behind every letters. I m glad that i worked in this firm. And one thing i see in the lawyer here, they are so independent, my other boss, she actually photostat herself even when she see i so damn free and sit there doing nothing. She even vacum the floor herself if the cleaner didnt go on that day.
The average age of the staff here is about 40-50, most of them work for that firm for about 20-30 years adi, so they are damn experienced, so most of my question is well answered. But bcoz they are so experienced, they expect the same standard from me, so i get scolded quite often for small little mistake, mostly careless mistake, typo error, hehe!!! I still remember those aunt like to scold me this way when i make careless mistake "do slow slow la, dun do so fast", but i feel like, if a staff in a big firm work so slow, can close la that firm, haiyo, always ask me to do slowly!!!
The type of work i get exposed to in this firm was typing some standard document, Sale & Purchase Agreement, Tenancy Agreement, will (i m more interested in this 3), and some accounting job (i hate this, it was so damn bored, and the accountant things is really in a mess, make me clean up her mess oni).
Lets talk about my experience in Anuar Hong & Ong, this is one out of 7 of the branches of the firm, is a bigger firm and is more modern la, at least they use microsoft office.Nothing much about the boss here, bcozz i only met his less than 10times since i worked there. He needs to visit so many of his branches, so he oni will be in our branch once a week. He dun deal with lawyer’s job, he oni socialise and get client for his firms. But the way he tok to people was quite funny la, he hv a habit of repeating every word/phrase wan la, for eg. "hello, good afternoon, very good afternoon, happy afternoon", "okokok", "no prob, no prob, no prob" . And he like to give compliment in such a way where every reasonable person listening to it will think that it is damn fake, hahaha!!! But he is generous la, haha, on the first week of my work here, he treat all the staff including me lunch in Sans Francisco Steakhouse, delicious!!! But seriously, i rather eat mixed rice, cozz eating with boss in nice restaurant, is really tension, i feel so weird, then everyone should know la, i m not that gentle wan, in front of boss and manager, have to pretend pula, so damn difficult la…
This branch i working at is basically operate by the manager and a lawyer, coz this is a new branch, and the office is temporary while waiting for the new office to get ready, still renovating. The average age of the staff here are younger la, about 30-40, they are less experienced, my question is badly answered, for eg. when i asked the manager wat is "Perfection of charge", guess wat is her answer, she said "Perfect the charge la", i asked another staff hoping to get better answer, she tell me the same, stupid wan, might as well dun answer me. Here, the lawyer rarely tok to me, basically jobs are given to me by the manager.
In this firm, the work i did is like typing docs, look for files, photostat…
Basically that is for all, i dunno whether all these experiences will help me in the future, but it is better than sitting at home doing nothing. By comparing this 2 firms, i can come to some conclusions. Working in a small firm, there is more interaction with lawyers, she can explain everything to u, let u hv a clearer pic. In big firm, if i hv any question, i can oni ask the staff or manage, lawyer dun really layan wan.
Another difference, in a small firm, i have more chance to deal with more challenging work, u guys know wat, i dun really need to photostat, pick up calls in small firm, i need to handle more important work, make me feel more important oni, ahha!!!One more thing, smaller firm pay me double the salary in big firm, haha. Many people asked me y so stupid go and shift to a more work and less pay firm. I m not stupid, just that i wan to hv more exposure, or else how can i come to these conclusion. And of course, more importantly, i wan to include a big firm in my resume, haha!!!
okla, end of my working life temporarily, i m well prepared for classes, haha, Year 2, here i comes, cant wait adi, one more wk oni…=)
